First Accord guy, now a guy coming to see my truck. To add insult to injury, I paid $50 for temporary insurance for this guy showing up, and he told me this morning he was showing up. Damn.

My insurance agent suspends my insurance on my truck when parked, and then prorates it for a day’s use if I tell her I’m using it. Typically she doesn’t charge me at all.

I can’t do that in BC. State-run insurance, yo.

Well that stinks. Can you just pay for one month’s amount and be done with it? I ask because you’re already paying 50 for temp, and you never know how long it will take to sell to a sane human...

Because the shortest non-temporary insurance term in BC is 3 months.

You can’t just cease it when you sell the car? In America you typically “agree” to six month* term, but when you sell the car, you tell them and they don’t make you pay the remainder. Canada, you crazy

You can stop the insurance, but you don’t get a refund on the remainder.

Yeah. ICBC sucks.

I’ve definitely gotten a refund from ICBC when I cancelled my insurance. Still, I think you would be best served by making the interested party pay for the day’s insurance.

Some companies charge a fee to cancel though. Mercury was going to charge me so I let the policy finish and then I changed.

Odd, I’m pretty sure geico didn’t knick me for anything but I could be wrong.

Not everyone does it, and it does depend on the state too, as insurance is usually a heavily regulated industry. Like in California companies aren’t allowed to base your rates off your credit score, but other states don’t care (and then low income people pay way more than rich people, and their driving record doesn’t matter as much).
